Try making the whites of the eyes red, you may get a surreal feel with that. And/or perhaps add a fancy red downward flowing tattoo design from his eyes for stylized tears.

Personally I really like how the eyes stand out most in the picture. Maybe you could even darken the font to make the eyes stand out even more? It sort of really draws you in, and personally if I saw that on a shelf, I'd be one of the first people to run over and snatch it! :3
